"Create your book the way you want it"

Now that you have decided to self publish your book, it's time to consider book design. I'm sure you have discovered from your book publishing research that a self published book must look professional.

"Make the process enjoyable"

Every project benefits from the attention of a specialist. I am a book designer. In the last 20 years I've designed all manner of communications but books are my favourite. The binding, weight and feel of a book communicates something that other mediums do not.

Michael

"You will be
completely satisfied"

You will be guided through each design step. You will be given choices and recommendations where appropriate. When you finally hold your book it will be exactly as you envisioned it and a book you will be proud of.

Testimonials

I have used Moca Book Design for three projects (a company logo, a book cover, and a book interior). I've found that Michael gives careful consideration to every aspect of his designs, and he does so with the full weight of a decade and a half of experience. Nothing he does is haphazard or cliché. His ideas are numerous and innovative. He listens to what his customer wants. He accommodates change without hesitation or complaint. He is prompt and professional in the extreme. And he'll iterate your design until it is perfect. In short, Michael has exceeded his own promises and my expectations in everything he's done for me. I would go nowhere else for these services.

Just wanted to say how much I like my cover design. Punchy and professional it just jumps off the shelf. Your attention to detail and marketing point of view made this cover much better than what I originally had in mind.

Thank you Michael. You've captured what I wanted in my book cover in a way that I never would have thought of. Great work!

"Quotes are free"

Your quote is a firm quote and based on the information you have given me, you will not pay more than the quoted price. Should you decide to make changes during the project that will affect the cost; you will immediately receive a revised quote. The examples can give you a rough idea of cost but every project is unique so complete the quote form for a personalised quote.

The book cover

We start with your ideas. What do you want the cover to communicate. Do you have any cover art picked out or do you need some ideas? Once we have a concept I will email mock-ups of the cover. This process can take some time and several versions but it is well worth the effort. Once we have the cover set you will receive a printed copy for proofing. The cover is the first impression anyone will get of your book.

Interior typography

While the cover needs to attract or shout, depending on the type of book, the interior typography should be subtle and unnoticeable. Typography done properly lends credence to the content. If the typography is good it's unlikely that anyone will notice (except another book designer), but if it is poor everyone will notice.

During the design process you will receive PDF mock-ups of your book cover and interior showing design ideas and font choices with pros and cons to help you with the decisions.

All text will be styled for consistency; proper paragraph indents, quotes, word spacing and special formatting, bullets properly formatted and numbered as per your manuscript.

Each page will be checked for awkward paragraph endings, double spaces, and hyphens where there should be dashes, along with other typographic problems that may show up.

You will receive a complete physical copy when formatting is done so you can see exactly what your book will look like and can carefully proof each page.

Printing

Once the project is complete the files are sent electronically to your printer. I guarantee printable files. I will communicate with the printer during the entire process to ensure that your book is printed the way you want it. Print on demand printers require different formatting than regular offset printing and I will work with your printer to ensure this will be handled correctly. You will receive a digital copy of your completed book for your records (makes a second printing easy).

Congratulations you are a published author.
